The word “forest” defines a wide territory dominated by spontaneous vegetation, especially trees which grows and extends spontaneously in the territory.
This natural environment expands thanks to specific climate conditions, not too hot nor too cold, which allow the growth of an ecosystem where trees are the dominant subject.
We talk of forestry works when speaking about the control on the growth, the structure, and the composition of the forest, which in this context is called “wood”.
Forest management used to be unregulated for the whole classic and medieval period and it is only in XIX century in France that the base of the modern forestry work was settled. According to this method, to preserve the quantity and the quality of the forestry it is necessary to imitate the natural processes as closely as possible.
